Department: Division of Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine, Department of Medicine, Groote Schuur Hospital, Faculty of Health Sciences

Exciting opportunities are available for Research Officers on two impactful projects:

  1. Wellcome Trust Award Project (4-year term):
    • Investigating the socio-cultural drivers of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
  2. Wellcome Trust-funded Project – Centres for Antimicrobial Optimisation Network (CAMO-Net) (3-year term):
    • A global collaborative research network focused on antimicrobial optimization for human use, emphasizing equity, local leadership, co-production, knowledge mobilization, cross-regional learning, training, capacity building, and output sharing.


  • Degree in Public Health or related Health Services Research or Natural Sciences
  • Research experience in healthcare settings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft packages, sponsor websites, and emails
  • Valid South African driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel internationally for short research periods

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Social and health equity research experience
  • Published research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Mixed methods research experience


  • Collaborate with local and international stakeholders
  • Conduct qualitative studies (ethnography, interviews, documentary analysis)
  • Assist in quantitative studies, analyzing antibiotic consumption data
  • Recruit and consent study participants
  • Engage in community outreach related to the project
  • Conduct ethnographic observational studies
  • Drive aspects of research and contribute to research outputs

Remuneration: The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R638,044 and R853,709.
