Minimum Requirements:
- PhD/Doctorate in any Maritime field of study with a minimum of 10 years teaching experience.
- Sustained research track record in accredited journals.
- Track record of postgraduate supervision and leadership of research groups.
- Sustained track record of external funding.
- Evidence of collaborative linkages.
- Evidence of external engagement.
Summary of Duties:
- Teach Maritime subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Supervise postgraduate students.
- Coordinate academic and research programs in Maritime.
- Participate in community engagement projects.
Associate Professor
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD/Doctorate in any Maritime field of study.
- At least 7 years of teaching/professional experience.
- Evidence of publication track record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Evidence of completed postgraduate supervision.
- Good communication and lecturing skills.
- Passion for teaching and research.
- Registrable as a professional.
Summary of Duties:
- Teach Maritime subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Supervise postgraduate projects and students.
- Develop learning material for various courses.
- Actively engage in research and research activities.
- Participate in industrial projects.
- Knowledge of online learning software (e.g., Moodle, MS Teams).
- Participate in community engagement projects.
- Assist with administrative duties as delegated.
Senior Lecturer
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate in any Maritime field of study.
- At least 5 years teaching/industry experience.
- Evidence of at least two DHET accredited publications and two postgraduate supervisions.
- Additional Recommendations: Dynamic teaching and learning approach, including knowledge of e-learning methods.
Summary of Duties:
- Conduct lectures and assessments.
- Contribute/lead curriculum design in Maritime studies.
- Research supervision.
Head of Department (5-year term, renewable based on performance)
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in the relevant discipline.
- Five (5) years’ experience in higher education and academic leadership.
- Scholarship leadership and scholarship.
Summary of Duties:
- Deal with student queries and complaints.
- Manage and supervise staff, including workload allocation and leave approval.
- Enhance staff relations and build a student-centered department team.
- Attend to matters like study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development.
- Appointment of part-time and replacement staff.
- Program and project budgeting.
- Enhance faculty projects (e.g., postgraduate recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, FYSE, Orientation, and Graduation).
- Provide leadership in Teaching & Learning and Research.
